PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
